About the Ministry Apprentice Program

The New Life Ministry Apprentice Program (MAP) is designed to supplement your seminary experience at Missio with practical ministry experience and discipleship at New Life Church. Candidates chosen for the program will receive a 20% discount on all classes at Missio, tuition assistance for up to 30 credit hours annually (details below), pastoral discipleship, and ministry and leadership opportunities. New Life desires to be an integral partner in the formation of dynamic next-generation leaders for the Kingdom of God. We are looking for highly motivated men and women who have a calling to serve the church in an urban multi-ethnic setting.

About New Life Church

New Life Church (www.newlifephilly.net) is an urban multi-ethnic church with a vision to reach one of the most diverse communities in Philadelphia with the gospel of Jesus Christ. New Life is looking to disciple and train next generation leaders to reach our diverse neighborhood which is approximately 57% African American, 22% Hispanic, 15% Asian, and 4% White. New Life is in the process of changing from a predominantly White church (currently about 70% White) to a church that more closely mirrors its community in both church leadership and ultimately in the makeup of the congregation. New Life is committed to robust discipleship, is active in world missions, and has a vision to raise up leaders to plant more urban churches.

MAP Requirements

  • Godly character which is consistent with biblical qualifications for an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-8).
  • A passion for Jesus and personal growth in being formed into his image (John 15:1-11).
  • Skill, desire, and a strong calling to be a part of a team dedicated to making disciples for Jesus in a multi-ethnic environment (Acts 13:1-3).
  • Becoming a fully integrated member of the diverse church family at New Life for the duration of the internship (Ephesians 2:11-22).
  • Working a minimum of 10 hours per week in specific areas designed to help you grow in ministry skills and meet pressing needs at the church.
  • Weekly discipleship meetings with a Pastor.
  • Receiving an interview and evaluation after each semester. Either party may decide to end the internship without penalty during this process.  New Life’s hope is to have interns who serve the entire year and potentially continue beyond that time frame.

Financial Assistance

Students will receive a $1,000 monthly stipend for their ministry work at New Life. This is contingent upon students being enrolled in full-time classes at Missio (at least 12 hours per semester). Students are expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. According to the IRS up to $5,250 per year or 20% of their yearly tuition payment (whichever is lower) can be paid as educational assistance benefits and therefore are not taxable. Tuition payments will be made directly to Missio by New Life with the remaining amount of the stipend will be paid to the student.
